About

Over the past few years I've been doing lots of drawing and shifting around of what I think of as creative, artistic and worthy of discussion - this site is the journal and home for all that and a box of peaches.

I don't know where this stuff comes from but I swear by Grayskull to express it. I can tell you I like unique, kitchy, cute, clean graphics. I'm a big fan of the work of Ray Johnson, Charles and Ray Eames, Daniel Johnston, Saul Bass, Keith Haring, Natalie Dee, Andy Warhol, Japanese Culture, the list goes on and is ever-changing. I appreciate extreme vastness or smallness, repeating patterns, the craftmanship that comes from using ones hands, and of course anything that's iconic.

My paintings consist of gouache applied over framed kitschy vintage landscapes that one would find in the average middle American home. I choose peaceful pastoral or wilderness scenery that will be most at odds with their robot visitors. The robots' purpose in these environments is sometimes difficult to determine as they sport an ambiguous grin.

My drawings are a collection of experiences and impulses which begin as stream of consciousness entries written in a journal. The relationship between my writing and my drawings is not unlike the relationship between songwriting and singing. Sometimes the meanings are direct and other times impressionistic. My style is a simple line-based approach done in pen and ink.

My posters take my drawings a step further through the magic of scanners, digital photography, Illustrator and Photoshop. In recent months I've worked with Ben of No Circle No! fame to develop software that generates my drawings dynamically.
